December 2, 2011

It’s Friday {12-2-11}

We’ve finally reached December.  I’m not sure why I use the word ‘finally’ – it seems like it only took about 3 weeks to get through this entire year.

Crazy-ness.

This week has been quite busy, as per usual, with lots going on!  Hubby went out of town again – this time to San Francisco.  He asked if I wanted to go with him, but since we have kids, I had to stay home.  I mean, I considered having Missy the Pig watch the kids, but since she can’t drive, how would they get to school?  Small detail, I know, but I decided to stick around this week while he was at some technology conference geeking out.

Obviously while Hubby is gone, I wear my son out.  Neither of my children have ever just randomly fell asleep on the couch – or anywhere for that matter.  In fact, it’s a struggle to get them to sleep in their beds.  Let’s not get into that conversations.  Here’s my little guy sacked out on the couch.

I kept working on my Christmas Corner – as I like to call it.  Since we have two young kids {this fact seems to pop up a lot} I can’t necessarily decorate the entire house at Christmas.  I mean, it’s kind of hard having a house emulate a Christmas shop all fancied up when both your kids have bikes in the house that they ride around and everything that ends up in Scout’s hands gets thrown across the room.  Yes, they ride bikes in the house.  It keeps them occupied and they remind me of mice on a running wheel.  They just ride in circles for the longest time.  Hey, whatever works.trees

I have my tree up and now and I’ve put my garland and wreath on the stairway – but that’s as far as I have gotten.stairs

I probably would be done by now, but I keep getting sidetracked on all my Christmas Craft projects that I pulled off Pinterest.  Yes, it keeps stealing away my time, but I have found every gift idea for this year on Pinterest and I’m so excited to be giving these gifts this year. I’m in my “I can be Martha Steward” mind frame right now.  Dangerous!

This week we had some gorgeous Colorado skies!  Look at what I get to see most mornings since I’m up before the sun and the rest of creation!  BTW – I didn’t use a filter on these – this is how cool it looks FOR REAL!sunrise

Another cool thing I get to see is glowing mountains.  Yes, the sun hits the mountains before it hits the city, so most mornings there is this beautiful gold glow off the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  The photo below isn’t the best because I was in my backyard and all the trees were in the way.  If I’m upstairs I have a better view!  Check out THIS blog post and photos I took in 2009.  Not only will you see what kind of weather we get here in these parts of Colorado – you get to see the most amazing golden glow on the mountians with snow all around – just gorgeous!mountains

Tuesday I made from scratch Chicken Noodle Soup.  It’s the best. Seriously. And it’s even better a couple days later, piping hot when it’s snowing, windy and downright cold.  Can’t find this yumminess in a can, that’s for sure!soup

Wednesday, my mom watched Scout for me so I could run some errands, so I went to 6 stores in 3 hours (kid-less makes store hopping so much faster) and as I was browsing the store shelf for corn flour, I hopped over to the spice shelf to laugh at how much they charge people for vanilla extract when you can make your own for a fraction of the cost.  Anyhoodle…I picked up a $9.00 bottle of non organic vanilla extract to read the label and I was intrigued by what they had on the front.  So, if you read my tutorial on Making Your Own Vanilla – I mention that all extracts you buy at the store are made with alcohol, so making your own with alcohol isn’t any different than commercial brands.  Case in point!vanilla

As I write this (Thursday, 12-1-11) I’m happy to say that Colorado didn’t let us down and it gave us some snow on the FIRST DAY OF DECEMBER! And since it pretty much hasn’t shed any snow this season – I guess it was due time.snow

Next week I’ll be posting some recipes for baking, including the three recipes I made for Thanksgiving.  Goodness, they were delicious!  As for now, it’s time to pack up my work station from my cozy chair in the Peakview Café and head down to get Scout from school.  I sure hope it doesn’t take forever to get home – it should only take us 10 minutes, but when it snows, the driver’s on Colorado’s streets forget how to drive and you go about 5 mph all the way.  Patience is a virtue that isn’t always at it’s peak levels with me.  I admit it.  Yes, I want to yell at the people in front of me… ‘USE YOUR GAS PEDAL!!!!’  What????  It’s there for a reason, isn’t it?!

Have a wonderful weekend! I’ll be getting my craft on so I can check some of my to-do list off!  Ahhh, such a great feeling that will be!  Maybe I’ll be able to kick back on the couch and relax like my Bubba here!scout

I have been a terrible commenter lately- sorry!

I have cut back on my Christmas decorating too. Not so much because of the boys, but just because I don’t have the time to spend hours decorating. I do enough to make the boys happy and we call it a day.

What kind of noodles do you use for your chicken soup?

Scout looks so cute curled up on the couch sleeping. Furniture seems so much more comfortable for kids because of their size. When my kids were in their baby swings I often wished for one in my size.

Please don’t ever feel you NEED to leave comments. I know life is busy. I read tons of blogs (mostly on my phone) and I don’t comment on them either simply because it’s a pain in the woohaa to do it on the phone! I thought about you last week because out of nowhere Bella asked me if we could buy a tablecloth to write what she was thankful for on it. Huh? I never told her about something like that ALTHOUGH ever since you posted about doing it, I thought it would be great. So – we’re doing it for Christmas week! Each day we’ll write and draw pictures about what they are thankful for and why they like Christmas. I am also going to do the sock thing – but for only 7 days – too busy to get it all set up in time for the whole month. So – I think of you often! I’m sorry I don’t comment on yours. I haven’t tried it in a bit since the last time it kept shutting my browser down. I’ll go back and see if it’s okay now :o )
As for my noodles, I use a brand called Ancient Quinoa Harvest. They are made out of organic corn flour and organic quinoa flour. They are the only noodle that I’ve tried (and I’ve tried many) that have the most similar taste to regular duram pasta. Or, you can just use regular pasta – and I like the linguini ones because they are wide and it’s just perfect for the soup.
ps…I wish I had a baby swing so I could be rocked to sleep. Sigh.
